The Naked Truth about the Abbey House Garden in Malmsbury

It’s time to expose the bare facts about the Abbey House Garden in Malmsbury, which we will be visiting on the upcoming 2010 Herb Tour.

The formal and woodland gardens cover 5 acres, and well-known British garden writer Alan Titchmarsh has said of it, “The WOW factor is here is abundance”. The formal gardens include a knot garden, huge herb garden, and hundreds of roses.

Barbara and Ian Pollard, who purchased the manor house in 1994, have transformed the derelict grounds into a Garden of Eden. They are a modern-day Adam and Eve in more ways than one. The Pollards love to get as close to nature as possible. The following video from the BBC will give you a chance to view the gardens…and the Pollards. Oh, did I mention that they are known as “The Naked Gardeners”?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on you point of view), we will not be visiting the Abbey House Garden on a “Clothing Optional Day”, so our tour participants will be expected to keep their clothes on. However, if you feel the urge to go au naturale, we’re sure the Pollards would approve. The rest of us…maybe not.

There’s still time to sign up for the Herb Gardens of Southern England tour, but time is running short. Let us know ASAP if you are interested.
